How Does the Petsafe Professional Underground
fence work?
A ProTx-1 transmitter mounted in a covered area sends
a radio signal through a 12 guage solid copper coated wire buried around your yard. This custom boundary defines all of the
safe areas. Your pet wears a custom-set ProLite collar that warms them as they approach the boundary. This product is only
offered through a professional dealer such as aloha Hidden Dog Fencing.
Wat is the difference in your collars and collars
I buy in the store?
Retail collars typically only have one, five, or six levels
of correction. Our ProLite collars have 10 levels. We start our training on the lowest levels, and find most dogs don't even
begin to respond to the correction until level 4. Keeping that in mind, having the option of higher levels makes sense. Medium
weight dogs usually maintain and stay within their boundaries between levels 5 and 8.
What are Personality Settings?
If your dog likes to linger in the warning zone and wear
down their batteries, we have a setting to prevent that. If they like to bolt through the line at a high rate of speed, we
have a setting for that also. The standard beep/correction setting is usually used unless we encounter an extremely determined
dog!
What do you mean by "Correction" don't you mean
shock?
The short answer is yes. But some folks are sensitive
to the word shock. The correction is similar to (but less strong) than a static shock you get from scuffing your feet across
the carpet. We encourage you to feel a number 1 on the collar which is not uncomfortable at all. In fact, at a recent health
fair, I strapped a "massage belt" onto my waist and was surprised the electronic pulses delivered to my back were much stronger
than my number 10 level on our PetSafe collars!
Explain the boundary
The standard setting has a 25/75 boundary ratio, or a
50/50 boundary ratio. This means that within your 10 foot zone from the boundary line, the first 2.5' is where your pet will
get warning beeps. the remaining 7.5' is where your pet receives a correction. This zone is tripled as it actually works on
both sides, and above the boundary wire.
How long will is take for my dog to learn where
the boundary is?
With our Litetouch training method that rewards your dog
for retreating from the boundary as well as applying gentle progressive "tapping" stimulation, it should take less than two
weeks. We have found pets learn much faster with this method than with other containment methods. So plan on seven days of
training, evaluation, and a possible additional week if they have don't pass their initial off-leash tests. Each session will
only be 10 minutes long, twice a day.
